Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 16, 2026
TrillMark is a menu-bar utility for macOS, published by SKJ APPS, that plays a custom sound - and shows an optional visual cue - for each app's notifications, so you can tell which app notified you without looking. This policy explains what data the app touches and what, if anything, ever leaves your Mac.
The short version: TrillMark keeps your data on your Mac. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers.

Data that stays on your Mac
TrillMark stores your rules and settings locally, in your user Library's Application Support folder
(~/Library/Application Support/TrillMark/). This includes your per-app sound rules, keyword
and pattern conditions, volumes, visual-cue preferences, and any custom sounds or clips you add (kept in
.../TrillMark/Sounds/). These files never leave your Mac and are not sent to us or anyone
else.
To do its job, TrillMark uses one macOS permission, Accessibility, and one optional permission, Full Disk Access. Everything they enable is processed on your device only; nothing read through them is transmitted, uploaded, or stored off your Mac:
- Accessibility is used to observe Notification Center banners as they appear, so TrillMark can tell which app posted a notification and read its title and text to match any keyword or pattern rules you have set, and then play the sound or show the visual cue you chose. TrillMark reads this notification text on your Mac only to decide how to react, and never sends it anywhere. The message text itself is not saved to disk unless you turn on the optional message preview (see Recent Alerts below); by default only the app's name and the time are kept.
- Full Disk Access (optional, off unless you turn it on) lets TrillMark read macOS's own on-device record of delivered notifications, so an alert that a Focus kept off your screen still appears in Recent Alerts and the menu-bar badge. TrillMark plays no sound for those alerts, reads the record only on your Mac, and never sends it anywhere. Without it, TrillMark works exactly as described above.
TrillMark also keeps a short, local Recent Alerts history so you can catch up on a
visual cue you looked away from. By default each entry records only which app notified you and
when - no message text. If you turn on Include message preview (off by default)
under Settings > Recent Alerts, entries recorded from then on also store a short
one-line snippet of the notification's text; existing entries are unchanged. This history is bounded to
the most recent alerts, is kept only on your Mac
(~/Library/Application Support/TrillMark/pingHistory.json), never leaves your device, and you
can erase it at any time with Clear History under Settings > Recent
Alerts.
TrillMark does not use Screen Recording, your Camera, your Microphone, your Contacts, or your Calendar. You can grant or revoke Accessibility at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility (on macOS 27 the page is called Device Control and Data Access), and Full Disk Access in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access. TrillMark only observes notifications; it does not post its own.
When TrillMark connects to the internet
TrillMark makes network connections in only the situations below:
- Updates. Setapp delivers TrillMark's updates. The Setapp version of TrillMark has no update checker of its own and never contacts our update server.
- Validating your license. If you purchased directly from us and enter a license
key, TrillMark contacts our own license service at
api.trillmark.app, which we run on Cloudflare's infrastructure, then again each time it opens, to verify your purchase and the activation on your Mac (this is how the three-device limit is enforced). This sends your license key and an activation code for your Mac: a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID, which never leaves your Mac itself and cannot be recovered from the code. Your computer name and user name are not sent. Your license key is stored in your Mac's Keychain on the device where you entered it and is never written to logs. If you obtained TrillMark through the Setapp Marketplace, your access is managed by Setapp and this license-key flow does not apply.
TrillMark does not use analytics SDKs, advertising, tracking cookies, or crash-reporting services, and it does not require you to create an account with us.
Bug reports
If you use Report a Bug from the About screen, TrillMark pre-fills an email to us that includes your app version, macOS version, device architecture, and whether Accessibility is granted - nothing else. The email is composed in your own mail app, and nothing is sent until you choose to send it.
Purchases and third parties
We keep the app itself free of trackers, but a purchase involves a payment provider:
- If you buy through the Setapp Marketplace (operated by MacPaw), Setapp acts as the merchant of record and handles your account, subscription or purchase, billing, and payment information as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. SKJ APPS does not receive or store your payment-card details, and TrillMark does not send your usage data to Setapp.
- If you buy directly from us, your payment is processed by Paddle, our merchant of record for direct sales, under Paddle's privacy policy. We do not receive or store your payment-card details. Your license and activation records are held by us, under this Privacy Policy, and are not shared with the payment provider.
Data retention and security
Because your rules, settings, sounds, and Recent Alerts history live only on your Mac, you can remove
them by deleting TrillMark and its ~/Library/Application Support/TrillMark/ folder, and you
can clear the Recent Alerts history on its own at any time. We do not hold a copy to delete on your
behalf.
For direct purchases, we retain only the minimal license and activation records needed to validate purchases and enforce the device limit (your license key and the device label you supplied); these are kept on our own infrastructure for as long as the license is active and are not sold or shared for advertising. Your license key is stored in the macOS Keychain on your device and transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection when validated.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, to data portability, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because the app itself keeps your content on your device, most of your data is already under your direct control. For the limited license and activation records we hold for direct purchases, email support@trillmark.app and we will respond as required by applicable law. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. If you purchased through Setapp, requests about your account, subscription, or payment data should be directed to Setapp as the controller of that data; for questions about the app's on-device behavior you can still contact us.
Children
TrillMark is a utility not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
