Give Calendar its own notification sound on your Mac

So a meeting reminder is a sound you recognize on the spot — not one more chime you register a minute too late.

A calm colored band at the screen’s edge in Calendar’s color — enough to notice a reminder without breaking flow.

Why a reminder sounds like everything else

Calendar reminders use your Mac’s one alert sound — the same as email or chat — so the reminder for a meeting you can’t be late to sounds like a newsletter. macOS only lets you switch Calendar’s sound on or off.

Calendar’s default alert times help you get reminded earlier, but they don’t change how the reminder sounds, and there’s no way to give Calendar a distinct sound from your other apps.

What you can do without TrillMark

How TrillMark makes reminders land

TrillMark reacts to Calendar’s reminder banner. Add Calendar, pick a sound you’ll recognize and a color, and reminders arrive as that sound plus a labeled flash — so a meeting reminder never hides among your other notifications.

Because TrillMark reads the notification, you can add a rule that makes a reminder for a specific meeting title louder, while routine reminders stay soft. Pair it with Calendar’s own alert timing so the right nudge comes at the right moment, in a sound you know.

It reads that text only on your Mac, only to decide how to react, and never sends it anywhere.

Set it up in about a minute

  1. Open TrillMark and add Calendar.
  2. Give it a sound you’ll recognize and a color — a quiet edge band is plenty for a reminder.
  3. Optional: add a rule matching an important meeting title with a louder sound.
  4. Keep using Calendar’s alert times to control when you’re reminded.
  5. Turn off the system sound for Calendar in Notification settings so you hear only the sound you chose.

Questions about Calendar

Can I set a custom sound for Calendar reminders on Mac?

Not from macOS alone — Calendar uses your Mac’s single alert sound and only lets you switch it on or off. TrillMark reacts to the reminder banner and plays a sound you choose, with a colored, labeled flash so a reminder stands out.

Can I make one specific meeting’s reminder stand out?

Yes. Add a rule that matches that event’s title and give it a louder, distinct sound. The reminder text is read only on your Mac and never leaves it.

Does this replace Calendar’s alert times?

No — they work together. Calendar decides when you’re reminded; TrillMark decides how the reminder sounds and looks.
