Why a Google Meet notification is easy to miss on a Mac

macOS plays one alert sound for every notification and only lets you switch an app's sound on or off. So a “your meeting is starting” notification sounds exactly like a chat message — at the very moment you most need to notice, it blends in.

Google Meet also has no dedicated Mac app: it runs at meet.google.com in Chrome or Safari, and its “time to join” nudges often come from Google Calendar. When they arrive through the browser, macOS labels the banner with the browser's name, not “Google Meet,” which makes a meeting alert even harder to pick out — right when being a few minutes late actually costs you.

What you can do without TrillMark

• Calendar notifications. Most Meet reminders ride on the calendar event — you can add an earlier alert or a second reminder so you get more warning. Helpful, but it still uses your Mac's one sound.
• Browser notification settings. You can allow notifications for meet.google.com and calendar.google.com in Chrome or Safari — but there's no custom sound, and muting the browser silences every other website too.
• System Settings › Notifications. Toggle the sound for your browser on or off and choose the banner style — but no per-site sound, so Meet can't sound different from any other tab.
• A Focus. A Focus can quiet everything while you work, but you don't want to silence the one notification that says a meeting is starting.

Set it up in about a minute

1. Work out how Meet notifies you — the browser (Chrome/Safari) or Google Calendar — and add that app in TrillMark.
2. Add a rule that matches meeting alerts: the text contains “Meet,” “meeting,” or “is starting.”
3. Give the rule a loud sound and turn the flash up — a full-screen wash so a starting meeting cuts through a call or a full-screen app.
4. Optional: raise the volume above 100% so the alert is loud enough to catch even when you've stepped away.
5. Turn off the system sound for that app in Notification settings so you hear only the sound you chose.
