Why Jira notifications all blur together on a Mac

macOS plays one alert sound for every notification and only lets you switch an app's sound on or off — never change it. Jira reaches you through your browser and email, so an issue someone just assigned you pings exactly like a routine status change, and the one that's actually waiting on you is easy to miss.

Jira makes it worse by design: its notification schemes fan out nearly every event on issues you report, are assigned, or watch — comments, transitions, field edits. Follow a busy project and it all arrives with the same chime, so the assignment that needs a real answer sits in the same anonymous pile as a colleague moving an unrelated card across the board.

What you can do without TrillMark

• Jira's notification settings. Personal settings and per-project notification schemes let you tune which events email you and watch or unwatch individual issues. This is the best lever for cutting noise — but it doesn't change how anything sounds on your Mac.
• Your board and the “Assigned to me” filter. Jira separates work assigned to you from general activity when you go looking — but it does nothing for the sound of the notification that pulled you there.
• System Settings › Notifications › your browser. Toggle the sound on or off and pick banner vs. alert for the browser Jira notifies through — but there's no custom sound, no way to make an assignment louder than a routine transition, and because it's your browser the setting hits every site, not just Jira.
• A Focus. A macOS Focus can hold notifications back while you concentrate, but that hides the assignment rather than making it recognizable when it does come through.
